Illustration Friday: Red

In high school we had to take those color-coded personality tests. (Turns out I was a pale bluish-green). Anyway, on the whole thing there was only question that I answered 'red' (representing assertive characteristics). Ever after, on the rare occasions when he managed to get me riled about something, my brother would tease me about my 'one little red' making an appearance. This one's for you, Paul.

This definitely has a few bugs, but I really love this technique.

Great illo. You totally nailed the cutout paper style and made it your own. The arm holding the balloon might be a little too realistic compared to the rest of the illustration.

I like this one, the girl has a great expression on her face.

I love the illustration-it looks great. I think that the color is working well and your shapes look very smooth. I don't know exactly what is going on with the shape of the clouds, they are really fun but demand a lot of attention. It might be nice if there were more variety in the shape rather than just in the size.

Illustration style looks real good! I enjoy the textures throughout the piece.

I'm wondering if the girl's face could be a bit more mischievous. There might be a quicker read on what she's about to do to her brother. (Heh, heh heh!) I just got this image of Calvin about to throw a snowball at Susie.

Great job!

I really enjoy this illustration. The colors work well and you seem to have a good grasp of the technique. I especially like how you are trying to tell a story through your illustration, but it seems a little static. Maybe the girl can be hunched over instead of standing up straight, or like Jeff said, she could look a little more mischievous.

You really did nail this style. The subtle gradation in the sky, the patterns in the shirts and tree and leaves and headband, are all so effective. Great drawing and design as well. I agree with Tricia's comment about the clouds but great job.
