It is digital. We just learned how to do this in my class. The trick is to make your own custom brush, something like a diamond shape, then fill a layer with black (or some dark value) and chisel out your white spaces, then paint underneath. (The best part is you can undo your mistakes, as opposed to real linoleum cuts!)
